Welcome to Charlton: The Friendly River Town.

AFTER THE FLOODS

Flood recoveryWhile Charlton has been in the spotlight since the January floods, the town is now slowly picking up the pieces on the long road to recovery.
Businesses are re-opening, and a range of essential infrastructure is being established.
Our ethic is “We will come back stronger than before the flood”.
We need to acknowledge the extensive support our town has received from many individuals, organisations, clubs, businesses and volunteers. We also acknowledge the input of the emergency services and all their personnel.  Without this we would not be as far along the road to recovery as we are. We are indebted to everyone who has contributed in any way.
Charlton has much to offer.  We are still the “Friendly River Town”.
We encourage you to visit, and to really get an insight to what took place on 14 January 2011 – the night the town flooded.
Telling the story helps us all – our recovery and your understanding.
Come Visit.

It is situated in the valley of the Avoca River in the last of the foothills of the Victorian highlands. Charlton welcomes visitors to the town and invites all to stay awhile and enjoy the river's natural beauty, our heritage style buildings and the town's friendly hospitality.
